This condition can be a symptom of another underlying health problem sometimes and it has a potential to create serious psychological problems. Gynecomastia treatment, male mammas surgery, is one of the most preferred surgical interventions among men.

What are the Causes of Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia may occur due to increased estrogen hormone. This physiologic appearance can be seen at later ages, during the adolescent period or with infants. Liver disease, cirrhosis, or drug use can also cause gynecomastia.
What are the Surgical Methods?
​
Gynecomastia operations are performed under general anesthesia and in the operating room environment. It is possible to get rid of gynecomastia with vaser liposuction method. However, when a person has extremely large and sagging breasts, only fat and mammary gland removal may not be enough. In this case, the excessive skin on the breast tissue should also be surgically removed. In addition, nipples can be reduced to an appropriate extent and a completely flat breast image obtained.

Only Liposuction: Excess fat in and around the breast tissue is vacuumed by entering through a 4 mm incision made from the armpit line, so there will be no incision on nipples. The operation takes about 1 hour. There is no drain usage.

Only the breast tissue is removed by entering through a semi-circular incision made in the lower half of nipple, the skin is not removed.

There are some cases where some breast skin needs to be removed along with excess breast and adipose tissue by making different incisions. Incisions are made in the side or lower parts of breast in addition to the nipple area and excess skin is removed in these advanced cases where the breast skin is too much and droopy.

Post-Surgical Recovery Process

Oral feeding will be started 2 hours after the operation. 4 hours later, patient can stand up and start walking.

Laying down in a semi-sitting position without forcing the arms.

The night of the operation will be spend in the hospital.

Drains, if there is any, are removed 1-2 days after the operation.

If there is any skin suture, it will be removed after 4-5 days. At this stage, the breasts are still swollen and not in the final appearance aesthetically.

It is possible to return to work 5-7 days after the operation if patient uses a corset and doesn’t force the arms too much.

A corset bandage is used for better adhesion and contraction of the breast skin to the underlying tissues for 4-6 weeks. Within weeks, swelling and edema in the breasts decrease, the loose skin begins to tighten, and the real aesthetic result appears.

Heavy sports activities that force arms are not allowed for 6 weeks.

The breasts will take their final shape after about 3 months.

There may be bruising, edema, and swelling in the treated area after gynecomastia. These edemata and bruises will decrease and disappear after the 3rd week.
