Sleeve (tube) gastrectomy surgery is a surgical method in which weight loss is achieved by removing approximately 75-80% of the stomach in obesity patients. Since the remaining stomach is in the form of a tube, it is also known as a tube gastrectomy among people. After laparoscopic (close) method being applied in this operation; it has become highly preferred in recent years with the reduction of hospitalization time, shorter recovery time, less scarring and reduced possibility of surgical hernia.

How Is Gastric Sleeve Performed with Tube Gastrectomy Technique?

Gastric sleeve surgery with tube stomach technique is performed under general anaesthesia with the Laparoscopic method (closed surgery technique). In order to avoid a mistake during the operation and make the stomach too small, a calibration tube is placed in the stomach entrance with the diameter of the oesophagus. Thanks to this calibration tube, the stomach is reduced as if it is a continuation of the oesophagus, and excessive stenosis and obstruction are prevented. After taking precautions regarding vascularity and bleeding, the stomach is cut from longitudinally with special cutting and closing tools (stapling). After the procedure is completed, the calibration tube will be removed, bleeding and leakage control is performed and the operation is completed.
